Try Before You Buy - Death Cigarettes
'ultra-grungy guitars and dark pedal effects'

by Tourdates Staff Writer, first published in LondonTourdates #049 ,19th June 2009

Death Cigarettes. It sounds a little tautological.

Like old adage. Or accidentally on purpose. Fortunately, Death Cigarettes probably don’t care. We’ve got huge love for their track ‘Total Fear’ which has been on heavy rotation since we’ve heard it.

There are certainly elements of metal here – ultra-grungy guitars and dark pedal effects – but every so often they stick their heads above the battlements and sound a little like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. With such a melange of sounds, we’re not sure if they’ll get as big as, well, cigarettes – but hey, that’s why they call it Try Before You Buy.

And go down to their gig at the Old Blue Last on 2 July. It won’t kill you.
