One of the massive surprise hits of 2008, White Denim’s mighty debut, Workout Holiday, was a schizoid joyride of punk, blues and balls-out rock from start to finish. Not being ones to hang out about though, the Texan three-piece are back with their second offering in as many years - and Fits is more of the same, and still brilliant.
Perhaps even more unpredictable and slightly less radio friendly than the first record (there’s nothing quite as catchy as their previous singles ‘Let’s Talk About It’ or ‘All You Really Have To Do’ on here), Fits is, nonetheless, every bit as good. Existing somewhere in a space between genres, White Denim again prove they’re masters of raw guitar rock.
With vocals that make the Kings Of Leon sound like the Welsh Boys Choir and a sound that’s as unhinged as anything around right now, they’re living proof that good old-fashioned rock n’ roll really ain’t dead. Fits can truly be counted as a deranged masterpiece.
