With their pretentious name, annoying art-house sensibilities and infuriatingly catchy songs, Franz Ferdinand are worthy of our most venomous hate (we don’t mix words here). And this latest effort – a ‘dub’ version of recent album Tonight – is, frankly, the nail in the coffin - or more like the three tonne slab of concrete being dropped on said coffin.
It was mixed by Dan Carey, the producer on Tonight. He hasn’t helped. This creation was originally featured as part of the box set and double disc version of the January album, but this time around features the song ‘Be Afraid’ – a new version of ‘Dream Again’ from the original record. Got that?
Franz Ferdinand? Dub? What the f**k?
Actually the main question here is quite simply, why? But then, you could ask that about so many facets of this band. Why the name? Why the stupid hair? Why the bloody awful clothes? Why the strutting art college arrogance? Why? Why? Why?
