Launching their album All Blood is Red, the trio entering wearing Slipknot-esque face masks.
Lead singer Jerry Kandiah, rocking a riot mask, showed he was no slouch behind the mic – even if the lyrics flashing up on the admittedly superb visuals behind him brought to mind a bizarre heavy metal karaoke. And then the masks came off.
Normally, there would have been Blaise Merino on bass. In his place, after removing a terrifying storm trooper gas mask, was a woman named Sayan (we think); dark black hair, scowl affixed to face, legs planted hard and the biggest bass guitar we’ve ever seen. What an entrance.
The music that TRIBAZIK make is unapologetically hardcore, and although the crowd showed mild appreciation rather than moshpit mayhem, this was a tight, cohesive live show. The nuances of the band’s anti-establishment output might have gotten lost in the sheer noise of it all, but there was no taking away just how much fun it was. Lightning fast drum work and insanely hard bass licks; this was good stuff.
