The humble punter’s–eye view of live London

by Tourdates Staff Writer, first published in LondonTourdates #044 ,10th April 2009

What’s your favourite London music venue?
Brixton Academy can’t be beaten. It has great acoustics for an intimate venue and they make good use of the space.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever seen?
John Legend at The Royal Albert Hall. He’s got a natural raw talent for the piano and it’s a privilege to watch him perform. Kanye West showed up too, which was a bonus.

What was the worst gig you’ve ever seen?
I saw a band called the Sidewalk Pigeons who were so bad that they could have doubled up as a comedy act. They really were the drizzling sh*ts. I also saw a band called Ghosts who stopped a song halfway though because a guitar was out of tune. They were the poor side of mediocre.

What was the last gig you went to?
I was at V-Fest last year. Muse were good performers, Lenny Kravitz was excellent too.

What was the first gig you ever went to?
Oasis at Earls Court in 1997, supported by The Verve. Suffice to say, it was several sorts of awesome.

Which band from throughout history would you have liked to see?
The Beatles. They are the best and most influential band in the history of music.
