The humble punter’s – eye view of live London

by Tourdates Staff Writer, first published in LondonTourdates #041 ,27th February 2009

What’s your favourite London music venue?
My favourite was the Astoria, RIP. Easy to get from and to, but most importantly I loved that loud and clear PA.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever seen?
Hmm, a hard one. How about Wolf Parade, Johnny and The Moon and Holy Fuck at Camden Barfly? Or Pete and Carl at Filthy McNasty’s. Oh and British Sea Power - anywhere and everywhere.

What was the worst gig you’ve ever seen?
There have been a few of these! Feeder at ULU. I’d been given tickets for free but they were so dull. I left to go home and watch Shameless. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah were a let down for me too.

What was the last gig you went to?
Last gig was Shearwater and Constantines at Bush Hall. Great venue and pretty good gig. I really like Constantines on record but unfortunately live they leave me a bit cold.

What was the first gig you ever went to?
If I’m going to be honest it’s East 17 at Brighton Centre. Second was Cast and earliest defining gig was Bjork at Wembley.

Which band from throughout history would you have liked to see?
Janis Joplin would have been special!
