What do you do with this? Pick the band that has the most obvious commercial appeal? That would probably be Japanese Motors or The Coast.
Pick the band that you like the most and possibly jinx any chances they have of success? That could haunt you.
Pick someone shit with the hope that you’ll jinx them? Too many to choose from. I’m going to throw caution to the wind and go with option two, the band I’d most like to succeed. And that is Gentleman Jesse and His Men.
Along with the awesome name and the awesome album cover, these guys also make an awesome racket. It’s all shouty vocals over a sound that is pure old-fashioned rock n’ roll played through broken amps on guitars turned up to ‘ear-splitting’.
But if you want something quieter but equally great and worthy of success, Daniel Martin Moore is your man. The gentle shuffling folk of his debut Stray Age is a beautiful experience, enhanced by Moore’s fantastic voice. It’s even a contender for my top five of 2008.
