Dressed exclusively in black, you’d think this lot would be easy to ignore. Not so it seems. Hailed – quite depressingly – as ‘the new Editors’, White Lies’ quest for pop grandeur in 2009 is gonna take some stopping.
‘Steely’, ‘polished’, ‘minimal’… Yes, they all apply to this slick West London threesome. With two strong singles this year in ‘Death’ and ‘Unfinished Business’ and with an album due for 2009, White Lies’ success – like their soaring choruses – promises to build and build.
When we spoke to the boys a couple of months ago, we had our suspicions. Everything seemed rather too packaged, rather too glossy. Were they a boy band? Apparently not. With a headline US tour in their first year as a band though, there’s a PR machine behind them that should ensure gargantuan impact in 2009. White Lies… Be afraid! Be very afraid!
