Live Review - The High Society
Nambucca31 May 2008

by Michael Wylie-Harris, first published in LondonTourdates #024 ,13th June 2008

When Tourdates turned up at Nambucca for the All Ages Foam Party on Saturday night we were aggrieved to discover that – for once – we’d got our dates wrong.

And though there’s nothing more entertaining than a confused 14-year-old, soaking wet and high on crack, The High Society did their best to lift our spirits. At least the ketamine wasn’t a complete waste of money!

Maxi Browne’s Brum-based purveyors of all things glam and most things rock are a five man assault on the inanimate shoegazers that all too often creep the boards at Holloway Road’s most notorious youth club.

A screeching 20-minute set that included ‘Bettie Is A Pin Up’ and ‘The Stripper’ was wasted on a crowd who couldn’t wait to get back outside for their next Benson, but Browne didn’t seem deterred.

Discussing footwear after the show (he red Italian loafers, me in Cuban heels), the Brummie hinted that the band are considering a full-time move to the capital. London… Get ready to rock!
