'Kadesh' are largely a bunch of socially inept twenty-somethings, who to compensate for lack of manners have become very good at playing instruments. Vocalist Ceri Thomas has a penchant for toilet humour and excessive alcohol consumption, which when combined results in horrendous social faux pas. Guitarist Richard Long plays an incredibly filthy solo but intends to die young, which means his genius will be recognised and he makes the rest of the band hideously wealthy, so they've come to accept his decision. Antony Herbert, who plays bass, is most definitely insane and has only narrowly avoided being institutionalised. In fact, that he has avoided the 'men in white coats' is the only sane thing he can claim to have done. Matthew Rider is also a guitarist in the band and since he has a very technical music background, likes to show off by playing other instruments too. Sam Robson is the band's third drummer. He's got a PhD, likes to keep fit and do wholesome activities, which the others find a bit odd but they accept him nonetheless. Despite his seemingly normal life, he's fitted in very well with some of Cambridge's finest misfits, so he can't be as psychologically balanced as he makes out.
Kadesh formed in March 2009 and have a goal to create some music that is both enjoyable and technically demanding, with songs reminiscent of the Red Hot Chili Peppers crossed with classic rock. Lyrically, songs are poetic, philosophical and express angst at conformity, the media and the marvels of the modern world. Since Ceri Thomas is the main lyricist, recent songs have been about themes of self-destruction, otherwise put, getting drunk. The band are currently finishing off their first album and will be recording in January 2010. Featuring two guitars, bass, drums, vocals and the occassional mandolin part, their debut EP tracks are available to download free on tourdates.co.uk and the CD will be available shortly.
The band are currently gigging in and around their hometown of Cambridge and played to a packed out Portland Arms at their first headline gig on September 3rd. Entering as many band competitions as they can, as well as flaunting themselves mercilessly in front of their local media, they hope to get their music recognised by more than just their family members, although based on the nature of the music industry this is perhaps the only fate that is likely.
