Iggy and the Stooges are one of the leading bands of the first wave of punk rock. Lead by their outrageous and wild frontman Iggy Pop, they are regarded as influential to rock, indie, metal and punk bands starting up today. Hailing from Michigan, The Stooges were originally heavily influenced by blues, but Pop's vision meant the band played a rockier, more intricate sound. Their energetic live performances, which featured crazy antics from Pop, gained them a reputation, and they soon recorded debut album 'The Stooges'. Second album 'Fun House' soon came. It was eponymous third album 'Raw Power' (mixed by David Bowie) which gained their legacy. The band soon split however, when Iggy Pop's heroin addiction spiralled out of control, though he did go on to have a successful solo career. They reformed in 2007 and recorded 'The Weirdness' which came out to mixed reviews. Though guitarist Ron Ashton died early in 2009, the band are still active and have plans to make music again.
