Glasvegas are a band formed in Glasgow (unsurprisingly) in early 2006. Singer James Allan, a former professional footballer, his cousin Rab Allan (bass) and Rab's school friend Paul Donoghue (guitar) recruited Caroline McKay, who worked in a local vintage clothes shop, to play drums. They were watched by Alan McGee, the man credited for discovering Oasis and fellow Scots Primal Scream. McGee supported and promoted the band consistently and they eventually released their first single "Go Square Go", a heavily 50s influenced, wall of sound track. The band went on to make the sound their trademark, and second single "Daddy's Gone" was released, and forced NME journalists to vote the song the second best of the year in the magazine's annual poll. The band signed for Columbia records and then went on to receive the Philip Hall Radar Award at the NME awards, 2008. They appeared at the 2008 Glastonbury festival and are due to release their debut album in September.
