Eels are the baby of Mark Oliver Everett, otherwise known as Mr E. Although Eels', debut album wasn’t released until 1995, Mr E had written and released several solo records before. ‘Beautiful Freak’ was released to moderate critical acclaim, and won the Brit Award for Best Breakthrough Act. Though they perform live as a three-piece, they often include many other musicians on their records. Eels have recorded six studio albums since their debut, namely ‘Electro-Shock Blues’ (1998), ‘Daisies of the Galaxy’ (2000), ‘Souljacker’ (2002), ‘Shootenanny’ (2003), ‘Blinking Lights and Other Revelations’ (2005) and ‘Hombre Lobo’ (2009). All of the records have maintained the Eel’s identity as a melodic, indie-rock band. At the same time Mr E has recorded several solo records, whilst attempting to maintain Eels’ ever loyal fanbase.
