Nefyn, North Wales, may not seem like the ideal hometown of a soul influenced songstress, but when Duffy's second single "Mercy" reached number one in the UK singles chart, people started to sit up and take notice. Singing a brand of retro-soul, Duffy has earnt comparisons with Amy Winehouse and Beyonce, and her debut album "Rockferry", released on Polydor in March 2008, has already sold two and a half million copies worldwide. Former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler helped co-write many of the albums tracks, and also formed most of the band with his musical partner David McAlmont. Following single "Warwick Avenue" reached number three in the UK chart. This success led to Duffy playing The Other Stage at Glastonbury, SXSW festival and Coachella Festival. She also won the Song of the Year title at the 2008 MOJO Awards for "Mercy".
