Spawned in late 2006, Theo Mcdonald (bass), Benjy Wade (guitar), Marcus Graham (drums) and Sam Roberts (vocals) came together to form Deray. Following a successful first gig at The Castle in Bruton in February 2007, the band continued playing across Somerset before Benjy left later that year, to be replaced by Josh Weldon, a lead guitarist studying on the same music course as Theo at Strode College. The band enjoyed a rocking show at the infamous GAS club at the Glastonbury Riflemans, truly initiating Josh in style. However, soon to follow Benjy through the exit was Marcus following musical differences within the band, and was replaced by ex-Tijuana and Signed. Captain Swing drummer Glenn Hampson, also studying with Josh and Theo. The trio spent the rest of their time on the course playing together and working a freshly revived set-list, with Sam often struggling to pen lyrics fast enough! Deray have recently shared some great shows, including a charity gig at the Glastonbury Assembly Rooms, in aid of the Strode College Gambia Project in May and a small festival in Sherbourne called Sunset Ridge in July. Many a great band suffer at the hands of the crunch-time that is the dreaded gap year, and Deray is no exception as they sadly say goodbye to Sam, losing him to go travelling in the summer of 2008. Reduced to a 3-piece, it wasn't long before ex Strasgo vocalist Simon Phillips came on down to jam with the band and soon after he was initiated at Tor Leisure on the 4th Oct 08, ensuring a spot in the band.
