Cavalier are a British rock band comprising vocalist/guitarist Tom Harries, his brother James on the
keys, Guy Prall on lead guitar, Rick Brearley on bass guitar and Mark Stormont on the drums.
The band was formed by four of the members who met at Durham University. Brothers Tom and James approached Rick and Mark having watched them perform in a club. By the end of the first practice session there was obvious chemistry, and the guys made an effort to get together as much as possible. Once Guy, a friend of Toms, was added to the band Cavalier was complete. The band quickly made a name for themselves around the City with their first major event being a charity festival in Exeter in 2008. The band recorded their first E.P. late 2008.
Cavalier works because of an organic and decisive approach to songwriting blended with the
musicianship of people from very different disciplines – rock, funk, jazz, classical and blues. This
results in powerful, beautiful and inspirational songs. Think infectious melodies, soaring guitar riffs,
tinkling pianos and an outstanding rhythm section.
They draw influences from a wide-range including Coldplay, Counting Crows, Matchbox Twenty, John
Mayer, Dave Matthews Band, Radiohead, The Fray, Jason Mraz, Dire Straits, Train, Rascal Flatts, Goo
Goo Dolls, Ryan Adams, Ben Folds Five, Eric Clapton, The Eagles, Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake, Pete
Yorn, U2, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
