In thrash metal circles, praise comes no higher than for Anthrax, grinding out the juice for over 20 years. Forming in 1981, in Queens, NYC, they signed major in 1986 with Island Records and released ‘Spreading The Disease’ which rose far above many of their peers offerings, in such a limited genre. The band released some of their most acclaimed word during this period, before reaching a baron patch during the late 80’s / early 90’s, certainly not helped by the grunge explosion, and consequent bandwagon effect. But they rode it with aplomb and are still considered to this day a sell-out level act.
