Beginning life as a fairly run-of-the-mill punk outfit in 1977, the band slowly began to rise above their peers with lurid stage shows, with an essence of S&M, and a distinctive sound. This got Derek Jarman suitably exited to include Adam (AKA Stuart Goddard) an acting part in the punk film ‘jubilee’ as well as securing the band two tracks on the soundtrack. The big breakthrough, though, came courtesy of Malcolm Mclaren, who dreamed up the bands famous ‘swashbuckling Indian’ image. They peaked in 1980 with the album ‘Kings of the wild frontier’ which made No.1 in the UK, and created a number of top 10 hits.
