Singer Maynard James Keenan [who is also the vocalist for the rock band Tool] is the voice and the soul of A Perfect Circle. Guitarist Billy Howerdel, the band's chief songwriter and producer [who previously worked with Tool, The Smashing Pumpkins, David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails and others] writes the music and is the heart of A Perfect Circle.
