The Metros
"A quality mix of many sub-genres of the rock variety, from punk through classic rock and roll to powerful ballads. Their set is always original and varied with something for everyone."
The Metros are a group of three from Swansea. The metros collaboration started in sept 2004 when Al Board (bassist) and Rob Benton(drummer) were looking for a singer and guitarist. During an open mic evening at the uplands tavern (Swansea) Jonny Mernagh was spotted singing a couple of nice little numbers of his own with the support of another guitarist. A few words and numbers were exchanged and the metros were born. Also added to the mix was Jordan Thomas (of thevoltsshow.com fame) a proficient guitarist recruited through the friend of a friend method. Jordan left to start a radio career in London during the summer of 2005, which left only three. So after some dramatic improvement in skills to fill the gap in the sound left by Jordan the metros are where they are today. They regularly play the tavs open mic session and play any other gigs they can get wherever they can play them. After feedback from garageband.com, I think it is reasonable to say that some of there songs are not dissimilar to a sixties rock sound which is comparable to the early beetles. Along with an eclectic mix of styles running through there complete set. This variation possibly stems from the song writing coming from all the members of the group on an individual basis before the tunes are banded up.The hope for the near future is to just play many gigs and share there musical style with as many listeners as possible. The possibility of recruiting another guitarist has been discussed but at the moment for the benefit of time constraints and the time required to involve another person the metros are going to proceed as a three piece.
