The MacLeaNZ 7 times platinum Russian-Kiwi pop classical crossover diva YULIA TOWNSEND married Glyn MacLean a commercial songwriter and keyboardist in February 2008. The music mad newly weds decided to create a brand and band within which they could pen beautiful melodic pop songs. Aiming to follow in the footsteps of THE CORRS and FLEETWOOD MAC, "The MacLeaNZ" are keen to develop their own fresh brand of multi cultural NEW ZEALAND influenced sound. YULIA, who hails from Volgograd, Russia, emigrated to New Zealand in 2002 and within two short years, mastered the English language and scored a recording contract with SONY. Her two albums INTO THE WEST and MONTAGE went on to achieve seven times platinum status and earn her two New Zealand music awards: BEST FEMALE VOCALIST and HIGHEST SELLING ALBUM OF THE YEAR. Glyn on the other hand had developed a career as a keyboard player and songwriter. He made national headlines in New Zealand when his songs when up against the music of James Blunt and David Gray for the TV series Las Vegas. He was offered a single song deal with UK's EMI PLAY KPM for the song WALK AWAY (now being recorded by THE MACLEANZ). The couple aim to create "beautiful pop rock folk songs sung beautifully" and with Yulia's credentials as a number one ranking vocalist in New Zealand, there is not much to hold them back. The MacLeaNZ is essentially a duo who write, arrange and produce their own music. When touring they hire top session musicians to emulate the harmonies, timing and spirit of recorded tracks. The happy couple aim to share "the voice that everyone needs to hear" outside of New Zealand at every opportunity and are hoping to hop across to UK, USA and Europe.
