Born in a pub in Aylesbury with a modicum of arrogance and an overwhelming desire to rescue the nation from blandness and get them up living life again, The Egos broke out of their hometown in 2002 as part of the family of the legendary Newcastle-based label Changes One, releasing the mini-album Where Egos Dare and guesting on a variety of compilations. The next couple of years (medical conditions-permitting) saw them tearing up and down the country and thrilling audiences with their high-octane, smile-on-face rock n roll and penchant for covering Abba songs. The band were almost as renowned for their behaviour off the stage, showing appreciation for whoever was playing with vibrant air-guitar, or propping up the bar.The band took a break from live action mid 2005 to hone and polish a new set of songs, recorded early in 2006 and as yet unreleased. At this time drummer Simon realised he wasn’t hairy enough to be in a band that rocked this much and left Tim (guitar/vocals) and Matt (bass/vocals) to reinvent themselves as a two-piece acoustic outfit.Equal parts fun and introspection, the acoustic format retains much the old electric energy while pushing the melody further to the fore. The first fruits of the new look and sound can be found in a contribution to a compilation on the Fading Ways label, out in January 2007 celebrating the label's fiftieth release, and also on our TourDates page.
