Ten Percenter
"Powerful alternative rock trio fusing intricate melodies with a solid, weighty base. Influenced by the American 90’s Seattle/Boston movement with A few British gems thrown in. Great musicianship with no part any more complex than necessary. Sweet songs complimented by a sweet voice. Putting integrity back into the British music scene."
Ten Percenter are:- Jay Brown (09/08/79)- Singer/songwriter/guitars and vocals. Thom Brown (18/03/81) - Drums. G (28/11/80) / Bass. Jay, Thom and G, grew up in the same village (Chudleigh Knighton), and attended the primary School there together. During the years that would follow, a core unit of a band would be formed (circa 1999, bonded through the common interest in music) and this in turn, through many incarnations, gave birth to Ten Percenter as it is today. The recording and the strain of material to mark this was the 2001 recording of Different Kind of Same which had marked success in many forms. Not only did it receive local radio airtime and a response that was to jam up the phonelines, it would receive a write up and single of the month award, in John Peels Unpeeled magazine, beating the likes of Primal Scream to the top spot. The single was also stocked by a local independent store. The recording was a success and by word of mouth the buzz about the band had begun to spread. Following the Different Kind of Same single, a date was booked in the local Trident West Studio to record a demo that was to contain some newer material. The demo was a success and in a few days again the band had recorded another four tracks. This demo was however just a prequel to the largest project to date - An album. Spurred on by the success of the previous demo, Ten Percenter set about laying down fourteen tracks over a period of around five weeks. Ten of these tracks made it onto the recording and through the developmental stages. This experience saw huge developments within the band as never before had Ten Percenter had such an opportunity to put themselves under the microscope and refine their art. Following this, Jay, who is the sole songwriter of the band, had been working on a newer sound with a new batch of songs. This new material held all of the same, catchy melodies, but also rocked like never before. The demo that ensued captured all of this and more as the recording was largely live and required no pitch correction or editing. The parts were perfect, the tunes just flowed and in four days, the record was finished. March 2006 saw the final effort which again was a three track demo finished in four days at Trident West Studio. Recording went exactly to plan and the band completed their greatest and most demanding piece of work to date. With such a great sounding demo it is sometimes easy to forget that that is all it is. All the time Ten Percenter have played scores of self promoted gigs from Devon to as far North as Wigan, and as far East as London, receiving acclaim at every stage and always proving to be the tightest and most developed act encountered.Contact at: ten_percenter@hotmail.comOr:www.myspace.com/tenpercenter06
