Named after the term used by US science writer Steven Johnson to describe the idea of popular culture being beneficial to an individual’s cognitive development, this new south London-based trio have single handedly invented the genre of ‘dystopian space rock’ - taking influences that range from contemporary bands like Interpol, Elbow and Biffy Clyro to classic pop and alt-rock such as Depeche Mode, Soundgarden and the Smashing Pumpkins, the end result is dark, expansive and often abrasive – yet also accessible, with groove-laden songs like ‘Suffer in Silence’ and ‘Vultures’, geared as much towards moving your feet as engaging your brain.A quick listen to their demo which was recorded over a weekend escape to Wigan, shows they’re musical perfectionists. But, more importantly, they can recreate that sound live as they’ve already proven at venues across the country including King Tuts in Glasgow, The Doghouse in Dundee and The Barfly, Dublin Castle and Metro in London, whilst racking up supports with the likes of Captain, The Rumble Strips, Lupen Crook, Pete & The Pirates and The Blizzards.Like the soundtrack to a beautiful disaster; Blade Runner, 1984, Brave New World, Sleepercurve is the next epic you can’t not be part of and if it sounds as good as this, bring it on.
