Shibby
"Pop Punk Rock. Chunky riffs and catchy chorus. A British MXPX."
Shibby is a british punk rock band formed in 2005 comprising of three core members: Sean Houghton (guitar, lead vocals), Matt Verrell (bass, lead vocals) and Loz Hollett (drums). Hailing from Thanet, Shibby earned a dedicated grass roots fan base by rocking established venues in Kent, including The Lido, The Tap ‘n’ Tin and The Forum! The band name is a derived from the popular film “Dude, Where’s My Car?” (2000) where the stoner kids constantly refer to anything that is good as “Shibby!” The first ever Shibby show took place at a local youth centre in Ramsgate and the set comprised of mainly Blink 182 and Green Day covers, two bands who largely influence the Shibby sound. In early 2005 the first EP was created and was called “If All Else Fails”. The EP received much local press coverage and Shibby’s Kent fan base continued to grow rapidly. Their sound found a solid London fanbase and after a vigorous City and local touring schedule in 2006 it was time for Shibby to go national! Following the recent punk success story of Koopa, interest in credible ‘pop punk’ had returned, Shibby’s time had arrived. Sean, Matt & Loz then took time to record a second EP and this time they meant business drafting in established music producer Rick Parkhouse (Pitchshifter, This is Menace, GetAmped and ‘punk rocker’ Sandi Thom) to create the second EP “Blurring The Edges” which comprises of four fully mastered tracks full of promise and quality. This EP was sent to various artists and the response was amazing, within a month they were touring with Koopa and the snowball had started to roll. After that amazing tour, Shibby were offered the much sought after support slot with up and coming british rock band Elliot Minor (22 dates across the UK). Within a few very short months Shibby were rocking some of the biggest venues in the UK including The Carling Academy’s, Rock City and Joiners. Two tours down and over 100 shows later Shibby are now concentrating on promoting their current EP and finishing the rest of the album for an April 2008 release.
