The band were originally called combat theory and began in early 2007. The original line up was Tome Hirst, Mike Evans, Adam Harvey, Paul Bramley Dave and Aled. After a few months Aled quit leaving the band without a bassist. Soon after paul left the band leaving them wondering if they could be saved. Then Tom and Mike's friend Rhys said that he would play bass for them until they found a proper bassist. He has more recently decided to stay with the band. Now all the band needed was a drummer and everything would be peachy keen. Again a friend of the boys said he would play drums. Ben Lewis came to three practices then left the band and was replaced by the current Drummer Sam Bennet.
Sam is a scotsman who can beat drums like there's no tomorrow and since he has joined the band has gone from strength to strength.

Recently Playing With Fire have played in Teen Spirit in Swansea under their previous name Riot! Dave was not present at that gig and had not come to band practice for many months, leaving the rest the band unaware as to the future of their keyboard player. On august the third the band will be playing in a charity gig to raise money for unicef at Mumble Pier.
