Nine Ashes
"Melodic epic danceable indie rock"
Nine Ashes’ old stomping groups in the hinterlands of Essex may not be the sort of place you’d expect to find their calibre of melodic indie rock, but though they’ve since left their respective hamlets to make their rock fortunes in London, they all still wear their Essex Boy badges with pride. And from that dark province they bring them an infectiously hi-energy, no-nonsense sound, influenced from artists such as The Rapture, LCD Soundsystem, New Order and '80s-era REM.

The line up consists of (L-R) Will Elliot (Bass), Egg (vox/guitar), Phil Smith (drums) and Dave McSkimming (keys/vox/percussion) and they have been together for only a year and a half! In that time the boys have not only rocked a whole host of London venues such as Metro, Borderline, Carling Islington Bar Academy and Monto Water Rats but also grabbed the attention of the music industry, securing a showcase gig with Jar Music Management whose previous clients include Amy Winehouse, Kaiser Chiefs and many, many others. London’s promoters have also picked up on Nine Ashes’ live prowess, describing them as “one of the best bands that haven’t been signed” (The Tube Club). Additionally, Nine Ashes have now been confirmed for a support slot at Monto Water Rats for Longview in November 2008.

In the studio, Nine Ashes have worked hard creating their own unique sound by recording with up-and-coming producer Ian McGurren, who is under the tutelage of Anthony Chapman (producer of Klaxon’s Gravity’s Rainbow and mentor of producer Paul Epworth) at InFX Studios, High Wycombe.

The latest recordings superbly demonstrate Nine Ashes' strengths, versatility and potential with raw guitars, soaring melodies and driving beats. Imagine the exuberance and giddy hedonism of Britpop eloping with the cutting edge dynamism of today’s most clinical dance-rock acts. Now you’re on track to understanding the awesome power that lies within the Nine Ashes camp.
