Nicola K
"What do 4000 people have in common with Angelina Jolie and Girls Aloud? NICOLA K! With an amazing vocal power mixed with soulful tones...Nicola K and her band will get your head-nodding and spine tingling with an original blend of URBAN-ROCK and mediteranean flavours."
Nicola K has just returned from a New Years trip to Cyprus - including several TV shows, radio appearances, photo shoots and headlining the New Years Eve festival in the Cyprus capital Nicosia - where Nicola and her band had 4000+ people dancing and cheering - Nicola is now in the studio writing and recording her new album...2008 will be a very exciting year for Nicola K.Nicola is working with writers, producers and artists around the globe on her new album, including a USA and UK #1 artist and the writer of Jamelia's debut album. In fact, Cheryl Cole from Girls Aloud was so impressed with Nicola's music, she took it personally to the head of her label.Nicola K was also one of the FIRST people to perform at the NEW WEMBLEY STADIUM in London! With Mediterranean blood running through her, Nicola K brings a passion to her music that can send shivers down the spine. With a distinct soulful sound blended with an amazing power, her vocal style is very unique and something very refreshing in today's music. Anyone who has seen Nicola live will agree that when she sings- the whole room listens.Nicola's music brings together various influences. In a nut shell – it is "Urban-Rock with the sounds of the Mediterranean" – with Nicola drawing heavily upon her Greek-Cypriot background, including the sounds of the bouzouki and the rhythms of eastern Europe. She is also heavily influenced by rock and hip-hop music though, and has sung in both rock bands and hip-hop live acts.Nicola performs live with her dedicated band of muso's – drums, bass, guitar and keys, and where needed, backing vocalists as well...and they have just returned from headlining the new years eve festival in Cyprus, to 4000 people. They have also played all over the UK, including Leicester Square and Wembley Stadium (Function room !), plus various festivals.Nicola K started out as a session singer, singing for various artists and projects including songwriter Richard Marshall at Metropolis studios. Nicola also featured on a drum and bass single 'I can fly,' released on the underground circuits.Nicola was also involved in music videos, and featured in 'Can you feel the love' by the Plastic Toyz, 'Mute' by Aerial-X, and the number one hit 'Lola's theme,' by the Shapeshifters. With a passion for song writing, she wanted to develop her own style and sound and so Nicola teamed up with producer Benjamin K. They began writing, and together fused various styles. Together they began to find Nicola's distinct sound and co-wrote Nicola's first release, the EP "Who am I." Nicola then signed a record deal with her own independent label Swagbag Records to put the EP out. For Nicola, the EP illuminates both a musical and personal journey.Musically, this record ventures through hip-hop and Greek music and ends up somewhere between R&B and rock. As well as Nicola's exquisite vocals, it features the Cypriot Hip-hop collective DNA and DJ Jus from Zebra Traffic to name a few collaborators. Growing up as a Cypriot in England, Nicola has been blessed with many musical influences. However, this background can also pose problems, as shown in this EP where Nicola tries to find out who she really is.In a short space of time the EP received massive response and promptly sold out. Through extensive gigging and promotion and more gigging, the word of Nicola's EP was out, and was especially well received in the Greek community in the UK and the Mediterranean. The EP is now distributed in the UK, the USA and Europe, as well as on the Internet.Since then Nicola has been working further with Benjamin K, DNA, Lyrical Eye as well as more pan-Europe collaborations… as well as balancing many jobs, finishing off a degree and co-running a record label. She is recording and writing tracks for her forthcoming LP and preparing to tour Europe.
