Jakil
""
The tightest, sharpest and smartest rock and pop with a funk edge. Maroon 5 meet John Mayer for a pint, on their way to see the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Jamiroquai.

We met as first-year pupils in our school's music department and practised in a garden centre's portable shed, auditioning amongst ourselves for our vocalist at the bus stop!

We have built up a loyal following in Edinburgh and beyond, with fans predominantly aged between 18 and 30, male and female. Lead singer Kieran O'Brien has yet to meet a stage he didn't own!

BBC Radio One selected Jakil as Annie Mac’s House Band during Christmas week 2007. Jakil were asked to write and perform a jingle for Annie, and were interviewed live on Radio One just minutes after the 2007 Christmas number one was announced. Their single “Who Are Ya?” also received its first national radio play.

Jakil were also winners of Radio Forth’s ‘One To Watch’ Award 2007 – a competition that ran throughout 2007 in East Central Scotland. Jakil picked up their gong at the prestigious Radio Forth Awards in Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms alongside the likes of Gabrielle, David Gray, Shayne Ward, and many others. The prize included a support slot with a major touring band at the Liquid Room in Edinburgh (to be announced) and a live interview on Forth One Radio, as well as radio airplay for their track “Who Are Ya?”. The station liked the track so much that they played it extensively; far beyond that which was due as part of the award.

The track received airplay on radio stations throughout the UK, outselling bands such as last year's X Factor finalists Eton Road and BBC Fame Academy winner David Sneddon.

"Who Are Ya?" was released in early January 2008, and is available on iTunes and all major download outlets.

In August, Jakil released their debut EP, also available to download.
