Cashanova and The Rich Geezers are an Islington based band formed in 2005 as an antidote to the ubiquitous spiky post-Strokes sound and diametrically opposed to the jangly mockney poetics popular with London bands of the time (and ongoing) . Call them Olde Nu Rock or Old Romanticism, they work in the classical-epic tradition, using elemental imagery and drawing on universal themes, making them in one respect a band of no particular time or place (unless you zoom out far enough to describe them as 'concerned with Modernity'). In another respect Cashanova and the Rich Geezers are very much of their time. Original and distinctive players in the swelling post-irony, post-trash band scene, their, until now, handful of London gigs have been packed out affairs imbued with the feeling of attending a lamplit resistance movement; the agenda, not revolution, but simply the chance to be lifted on a wave of Romance, to be swept against the tide.
