Arguably swedens most sucessful export, ABBA are the biggest selling band of the 70's and one of the all time top-grossing bands. (In their heyday they were listed on their national stock exchange for export!) Beginning their musical careers with two attemps at the Eurovision song contest, and winning the second time, the track 'Waterloo' was soon topping the charts. A mix of classic songwriting with disco & pop, their infectious melodies have stayed close to the heart of millions of people from around the world, throughout three decades, the ABBA legend, it seems, is here to stay.
The group consisted of songwriting partners Bjorn and Benny with partners Agnethea and Anni-Frid.
Despite largely being ignored by America, they sold more than 70 million albums in their ten year career including nine number 1's 'Fernando' 'Dancing Queen' and 'Take a chance on me' all recognisable anthems to the 70's infatuated 90's.
When both couples divorced in the late 70's, the dark fuelled epic weepies of 'The Winner Takes It All' and ' The Day before you came' was the penultimate stage of their illustrious career. By the early 80's their creativity had dried out.
Their influence to pop society over the last 20 years cannot be undermined, particular relevant albums are those of the mid to late 70's, most notably 'The Album' 'Voulez Vous' and 'Arrival'
